Synchrodogs exhibition Highlands at Stieglitz 19

“Tania Shcheglova and Roman Noven are two photographers who have been experimenting with film cameras since their perhaps not-so-innocent youth. From frozen lakes to empty theatre stages across Eastern Europe, the duo have snapped haunting images of the surroundings available to them, often emanating a dark or eerie mood.” – Dazed and Confused.

Synchrodogs is an artistic duo from Western Ukraine that has been working together since 2008. Their work has a distinctly surreal feel, erasing a line between the real and the imagined. Like in this project, their work explores the everlasting tension between art and nature, with images of raw, animalistic beauty, which also manages to come across as awkwardly sophisticated.

This publication was created on the occasion of HIGHLANDS, an exhibition by SYNCHRODOGS at Stieglitz19 gallery. The exhibition was open from 19 May 2017 until 24 June 2017 in Antwerp.

The publication’s most distinctive features are the cover and binding method. The yellow cover is intentionally smaller than the white inner pages and therefore catches the eye even more, especially added with its bright colour. The little book was then handsown with black thread by Redopapers; a seemingly simple addition but something that gives the entire work a touch of craftmanship.
