Random: a portfolio with wire-o

Jan Pauwels has been designing custom light since 1993. His small company, Random, employs 4 workers who help implement the manufacture and installation of his custom designs. As a light artist, Jan creates light objects that are designed to enhance the architectural needs and functional requirements of space.

Random’s creations consist primarily of transparent structures containing many small light bulbs. The frames are usually made of aluminum or brass. The transparency of the chandeliers leaves space intact, while creating a playful and airy environment and feeling.

Random’s portfolio is presented in this small brochure designed by Livin Mentens. The greyboard cover was treated with blue letterpress. The inner pages are of different sizes and sorts of paper: Arctic Volume White (150 en 300 grs.), offset paper (80 grs.) and a Maco Gloss (150 grs.). Folded pages that can be opened into big spreads are located between the ‘normal’ pages and smaller pages. That way, each image has the size and texture that suits it. The brochure was bound with wire-o which creates more room for movement.
